This weekend was a first for me–Two beautiful engagement sessions! The past couple of years September and October have been the prime months for engagement shoots (as well as weddings). What's not to love about this time of the year? The cool, fall weather, the changing leaves, flannel shirts and warm cuddles with the person you love. Yeah.. I know, it's cliche. But I'm completely in love with autumn! My birthday is also in September, so maybe I'm a little biased?
I met with Jess & Jimmy for their engagement session at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI. This is a unique experience for me, because I'll be photographing their wedding day in just a few weeks! Jess & Jimmy really wanted some nice pictures to display at their wedding, so they decided to schedule a session with me before the big day. I think engagement shoots are a perfect way to meet your wedding photographer and get to know them. It's also a great opportunity to practice being in front of the camera–Which is always everyone's biggest concern. The number one thing I hear before I take my equipment out is: "We're super awkward and not very good at getting our pictures taken". To which I respond "Don't worry! We're just going to have fun and take some photos! All you have to do is be yourselves." These sessions are such a great confidence boost for couples, because it reassures them that they can do this! Brides and grooms have enough to worry about on wedding day–The last thing they need is to be self-conscious that they'll somehow "mess up" their once-in-a-lifetime wedding photos! I also try to reassure couples that they're aloud to have fun, be goofy, mess up, and (most importantly) be themselves. Some couples are more traditional and enjoy classic images while others just want to goof around and laugh together. An engagement shoot is something different for everyone because it's a snapshot of your beautiful, unique relationship! I'm just there to document your wonderful love story.
We had such a wonderful time capturing these images for Jess & Jimmy. Here are some of my favorite shots below–Including one of my most amazing moments as a photographer.. wild deer! While taking some pictures on this private path, we were interrupted by a mother deer and her baby in the background. What an amazing moment to capture! These images were so much fun to photograph and I cannot wait to celebrate with them this October at their wedding! Congratulations again!
